Kalvin Lester
Kalvin Lester is the most recent addition to the Thundermen line up, joinning the band in 1998. Before that, Kalvin was up in the northwoods of Wisconsin playing in various bands in the Hayward area. Kalvin brings to The Thundermen that classic vintage guitar sound right out of the 50's. His style of playing is very much like all the great rockabilly guitarists of the day, such as Scotty Moore who played with Elvis, and Carl Perkins who played "Blue Suede Shoes". His guitar playing is also influenced by Brian Setzer of the Stray Cats. Kalvin's guitar solos bring energy to the music and his guitar sound helps round out the wonderfully classic sound of The Thundermen. Kalvin also sings many rock n' roll and rockabilly numbers with the band. As Kalvin is the youngest member of the band he is also bringing in other musical influences of the late 60's and 70's era. Kalvin has helped expand the Thundermen song list to include songs by The Doors, CCR, Peter Frampton, and many other artists of that time. Kalvin may also be seen playing with The Big Twang Theory, a rockabilly band including his two sons Andy and Ben during Thundermen shows. |
